Carpet Tile Backing

One of the top secrets of our success is what lies beneath
At Interface, we understand the importance of a strong foundation—it’s been the basis of our continual improvement upon the traditional benefits of carpet. So it’s no surprise that our innovative backing systems are responsible for the enhanced performance and durability of our modular carpet tiles. They’re what enable our carpet tile to resist moisture and be moved and updated with ease.

Each of our three main backing systems - GlasBac®, GlasBac®RE and CushionBac®RE- provide a unique benefit, but all offer superior dimensional stability and carry a standard 15 year warranty against excessive surface wear, edge ravel, backing separation, shrinking and stretching.

Interface Backing Systems

  • GlasBac®

Glasbac® is a fiber glass reinforced thermoplastic composite. It provides exceptional dimensional stability and it’s a superior barrier to moisture.
Our GlasBac® backing has been in production since 1973, and continues to set the industry standard. Our GlasBac® backed carpet tile products now have an average of 40% post-industrial recycled content.

  • GlasBac®RE

GlasBac®RE products have the base backing layer manufactured from recycled post-consumer carpet.
It is also Reclaimable through ReEntry®, the Interface Carpet Reclamation Program
After reclamation, the nylon face and vinyl backing are separated. The backing is then recycled into the GlasBac®RE backing system, which may then be reclaimed and recycled again.
Styles using our high post-consumer recycled content GlasBac®RE with our 100% recycled content Type 6 nylon feature up to 81% total recycled content, including as much as 35% post-consumer content.

  • CushionBac®RE

CushionBac®RE is a high-density shock absorbing recycled cushion backing which is laminated to the back of Interface modular carpet. It is specifically designed to improve underfoot comfort in all applications.

It’s a real step forward in our Mission Zero™ goal to become a company globally to be fully sustainable with zero negative impact on our planet by 2020.  It will also contribute to our next new mission Climate Take Back®.
